Privacy Policy

DRAFT — not legal advice; Derek to review (consider an attorney).
Layton Farms is a family homestead business run by Derek Layton in Franklin, Kentucky (“we,” “us”). This policy explains what information we collect when you visit laytonfarms.com, join our email list or buy from our shop at shop.laytonfarms.com, and what we do with it. In short, we collect only what we need to send you what you asked for, and we never sell your information.
What we collect and why
1. When you join our email list (Kit)
When you sign up for a free download (like our growing zone map) or our newsletter, we collect your email address and, if you give it, your first name. Our email service, Kit (kit.com), stores this information and sends our emails.
- Consent: You join our list only by entering your email in a signup form and submitting it. Buyers are added only if they tick the opt-in box at checkout. We never add Etsy customers to our list. Etsy buyers who want our emails can sign up themselves.
- What we send: the free download you asked for, a short welcome series about our homestead and products, and occasional updates.
- Unsubscribing: Every email has an unsubscribe link at the bottom. One click removes you, and you can also email [email protected] and we’ll remove you.
- Email activity: Like most email services, Kit may record whether an email was opened or a link was clicked. We use this only to see which emails are useful.
- Kit’s privacy policy: https://kit.com/privacy
2. When you buy something (Payhip, Stripe, PayPal)
Our checkout is run by Payhip, which delivers your download. Payments are processed by Stripe (cards) or PayPal. When you buy, these services collect what they need to complete the sale, such as your name, email address, billing country/address (for sales tax) and payment details.
- We never see or store your full card number. Stripe and PayPal handle payment details directly.
- We receive your name, email, what you bought and the order total, so we can deliver your files, answer questions and keep business and tax records.
- Payhip calculates and collects applicable sales tax and VAT, so it needs your location.
- Privacy policies: Payhip https://payhip.com/privacy · Stripe https://stripe.com/privacy · PayPal https://www.paypal.com/us/legalhub/privacy-full
3. When you browse the site (Cloudflare)
Our website is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. We use Cloudflare Web Analytics, which counts visits in a privacy-friendly way. It doesn’t use cookies and doesn’t track you across other websites. It tells us things like which pages are popular and roughly where visitors come from.
As with any website host, Cloudflare processes technical information such as your IP address and browser type to deliver pages securely and block attacks.
- Cloudflare’s privacy policy: https://www.cloudflare.com/privacypolicy/
Cookies: Our own site doesn’t set tracking or advertising cookies. When you open the Payhip checkout, Payhip and its payment partners may use cookies needed to run the checkout securely.
4. When you contact us
If you email us, we get your name, email and whatever you write. We use it only to reply.
What we don’t do
- We don’t sell, rent or trade your personal information.
- We don’t run ads on the site or use advertising trackers.
- We don’t add you to our email list unless you ask.
Affiliate links
Some pages may later include affiliate links (for example, to Amazon). If you click one, that retailer may set its own cookies to credit us for a referral. See our Affiliate Disclosure.
How long we keep information
- Email list: until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete you.
- Order records: as long as we need them for taxes and business records. [DEREK: confirm how long we keep order records.]
- Messages: as long as needed to help you, then deleted or archived.
Your choices and rights
You can ask us to show you, correct or delete the personal information we hold about you by emailing [email protected]. Depending on where you live (for example, California or the EU/UK), you may have additional rights under local law, and we’ll honor valid requests. We’ll respond within 30 days. [DEREK: confirm the 30-day response window.]
Children
Our site and products are meant for adults. Some plans are for building things kids use, but we don’t knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has signed up, email us and we’ll delete it.
Security
We use reputable services (Cloudflare, Payhip, Stripe, PayPal and Kit) that protect data with encryption and industry-standard security. No system is perfect, but we keep the information we hold to a minimum.
Changes
If we change this policy, we’ll update the date at the top. Big changes will be noted on this page.
